TRAI Proposes "112" As Emergency Helpline

India May Soon Get Single Emergency Helpline

112 As TRAI Proposes

You just have to call 112 for all your need. A single number '112' can be used for all emergency phone calls across the country including for theft, heart attach, murder, burglary attack, accident, fire etc,  telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) proposed on Tuesday. Similar to the '911' all-in-one emergency service in the US, government can integrate all existing emergency numbers such as 100, 101, 102 and 108 into the proposed '112' helpline number, TRAI said in its recommendations on emergency number.

Users will be able to call on it from land-line and from mobile phones. Facility will also be available on those numbers with temporary suspended service, no outgoing facility and no balance.

SMS facility is also proposed and yet to be discussed upon. TRAI also recommended setting up of Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) to handle people's call in distress. All the calls made to PSAPs will be answered by experts on the area who will comprehend and assist for the case.
